Smoked Salmon Recipe on a Pit Boss Pellet Grill

Salmon is one of the most common fishes that cooked in any kind of restaurant.

So get ready to get that restaurant-quality food with this Smoked Salmon Recipe on a Pit Boss Pellet Grill.

 There are many ways to cook salmon but if you use a Pit Boss pellet grill, you can get the best results.

You can have the perfect texture while adding great flavors to the salmon.

 Since pellet grills can emit smoke, the smoky flavor always associated with authentic cooking will surely add to the amazing flavors of the salmon that you want to cook on the grill.

 While the recipe is inspired by the one on the Pit Boss website, I made it myself, and hence there can be some changes that I make along the way.

 There are only a few things you need for this recipe and most of them might already be in your kitchen.

So we will be discussing those as well and see the process itself in a detailed manner.

What You Will Need

 Salmon is a relatively bland type of meat to cook on a grill.

That is when you compare it to beef or pork but in reality, it has many locked flavors inside the meat and the skin of the fish.

 That is why you must select the best cuts that you can find when you plan on cooking this recipe.

You will have to choose between many options that make it hard for you to pick.

 Knowing which cut you pick is important so you can be sure that you only get the best.

Ensure to look for the right color which is pink to a darker pink color on the meat.

 The skin is naturally silver with some black fading with a lighter color.

Other than that, you might be dealing with a bad fish or something that is not that fresh when they butchered it.

 There should also be thin white lines between the muscle strips that indicate that the fish has some fats in it.

There might also be some fats between the skin but you do not have to worry.

You will also need some seasonings for this recipe but the thing is, you do not have to add too much flavor to the fish.

Just the basic seasonings will do with a beautiful and fresh salmon.

 However, for this recipe, we will be following the ingredients used in the original Pit Boss recipe. 

Here, you will need to get some spices that might not be too familiar or used with fish.

You will need black pepper, minced garlic, rice vinegar, untreated cedar plank, olive oil, sesame oil, salt, minced fresh parsley, soy sauce, and onions for the aromatic seasoning fish.

 

Smoked Salmon Recipe on a Pit Boss Pellet Grill

 

Ingredients for Smoked Salmon Recipe On A Pit Boss Grill

3 Cedar Plank, Unrated

2 Salmon Fillets

1 teaspoon of black pepper

1 teaspoon of minced garlic

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon of sesame oil

1 and a half tablespoons of rice vinegar

1/3 cup of olive oil

1 teaspoon of minced fresh parsley

1/3 cup of soy sauce

Step 1: Prepare Your Tools

 You will need to prepare everything you need before you start cooking.

There are simpler and more basic ones like tongs, spatula, and trays commonly used when grilling. 

Since this process is relatively quick, you will need to have all the tools you will use near you to be accessed easily whenever you need them while you cook.

 You will also need cedar planks for this recipe as you will need to place the salmon on them. Along with that is a bowl for mixing all the ingredients.

 

Step 2: Prepare The Cedar Planks

 If you plan to cook soon, start by preparing the cedar planks the right way by soaking them in warm water.

 Make sure that they are all submerged in the water and leave them there.

 This helps bring out the aroma from the planks, adding more complexity to the salmon.

Do this an hour before cooking so you can enhance the cedar planks’ aroma.

 

Step 3: Marinate The Salmon

 First, make sure that the salmon defrosts if you have bought frozen salmon by leaving it in the fridge overnight.

From there, you can then prepare the marinade just before cooking.

 Mix the olive oil, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and soy sauce in a large mixing bowl.

You will not need a large bowl just for these ingredients but you will add the salmon later.

 That is why you need to make sure that you get to fit all the ingredients and the salmon in the mixing bowl.

Place the salmon in the bowl with the ingredients and marinate for 30 minutes.

 

Step 4: Preheat The Pit Boss Grill

 Unlike most of the recipes that we have discussed already, preheating the Pit Boss grill for this recipe is a little different.

You will need to preheat the Pit Boss grill with the lid open first.

 You can select your favorite wood pellets but Apple Hardwood pellets from Pit Boss work best with this recipe.

Leave the lid open until the firebox starts to produce flames with the pellets.

 Set the temperature to 225 degrees Fahrenheit and then place the cedar planks directly on the grill grate.

Once the cedar planks start to smoke or produce vapor, they are ready to cook.

 

Step 5: Cook The Salmon

 Remove the salmon from the marinade, season it with onion powder, parsley, and black pepper.

Discard the marinade as you are not going to need it anymore or marinade other fishes with it.

 Place the salmon on the cedar plank and then close the lid to allow the smoke to get into the salmon meat.

Get a meat probe and insert it into the thickest part of the salmon at 30 minutes.

 After about an hour, check if the salmon has reached an internal temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit. 

If so, it means that the salmon is ready and you can turn the heat down right away.

 

Step 6: Rest And Serve

Place the cooked salmon on the table while still on the cedar planks and then let it rest for at least 10 minutes. 

Do not allow it to cool down completely or it will likely get too dry when done.

 A good sign that the salmon grills to perfection is that the flesh should be flaky and pink. 

If the salmon flesh is translucent, it has been a little overcooked and dry. 

Serve the salmon with your favorite side dishes and enjoy!

  1. You have not stated the quantities of ingredients with the directions…for the salmon in the smoker. I have all the ingredients and am at a loss for the proportions.
