What You Will Need

Although the ingredients you will need are easy to find, you will need to make sure that you only get the best.

That starts with the pork ribs themselves so go to the nearest butcher shop.

There are many types of pork ribs that you can choose from and you only need to know the basic components. That way, you will know which pork rib has the best quality and flavor.

You should know about pork ribs because it already has a lot of fats in it.

Almost all parts of a pig have decent fat content so make sure that you do not go with too much fat when buying.

The only thing you should look for is a cut of pork rib that has enough fat caps and a lot of meat.

The bones are pretty much the same so there is no aspect to look for in the bones of the pork ribs.

Do not be hesitant to buy the pork rib that has a lot of fat as you can trim some of that off later.

It also helps if the pork rib has fats on it since it is the source of the juices in between the meat.

For this recipe, I have chosen to go with 2 racks of ribs to serve up to 6 people.

You can adjust accordingly and buy more if you need to feed many people like at a party or a gathering.

The other ingredients that you will need are the rub and the BBQ sauce.

The rub consists of brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, and chili powder.

You are also going to need your basting liquid later when you are cooking the pork ribs.

You can use apple juice, red wine vinegar, or other basting liquids that you want to use in the recipe.

Step 1: Clean And Trim The Pork Ribs

The first thing you need to do is to prepare the pork ribs by removing any unnecessary parts.

You will also need to thaw the pork ribs if frozen by leaving them in the refrigerator.

Do this overnight to make sure that the pork ribs are properly defrosted and are soft enough.

From there, remove the cavity on the ribs as it will only make the meat tough and bland.

This is also called silver skin which is a membrane that coats the ribs inside. Use a sharp knife to cut the corner of the membrane and then use a paper towel to hold and pull it off.

Step 2: Make The Dry Rub

For the dry rub, you will need a large bowl and then mix all the dry ingredients. Use a spoon to mix the ingredients and make sure that it is distributed evenly throughout.

Place the ribs on a tray and then sprinkle some of the dry rubs on one side of the pork ribs, turn it over, season the side, and then season the other side of the pork ribs before letting it rest.

Use your hands to massage the dry rub into the pork ribs and make sure that you let the rub get into the surface of the meat. Leave the pork ribs at room temperature to rest for 30 minutes.

Step 3: Preheat The Masterbuilt Electric Smoker

Set the temperature of the Masterbuilt electric smoker to 225 degrees Fahrenheit and then fill up the side compartment with dry wood chips. These will be producing the smoke flavors.

Before it hits the desired temperature, pull out the removable pan underneath the electric smoker and fill it up with water. This will help keep the pork ribs moist but it is also optional.

The dry wood chips will produce strong smoky flavors so if you want a milder taste from the smoke, here is a tip: soak the wood chips first in water or apple cider vinegar for an hour.

Step 4: Cook The Pork Ribs

Place the ribs inside the Materbuilt electric smoker with the ribs facing down or the thicker part with the meat facing up.

You can also cut the ribs into smaller pieces if they do not fit inside.

Allow the ribs to smoke for up to 3 hours undisturbed.

If you do not see smoke coming out of the smoker after an hour, make sure to add more wood chips on the side of the electric smoker.

3 hours can make the pork ribs super soft so if you do not want it to be too tender, you can allow them to cook for 2 hours.

This depends on your preference so try which one you prefer.

After 2 hours, place aluminum foil on a flat surface and put the pork ribs on the aluminum foil.

Baste the pork ribs with the liquid of your choice using a spray or a brush.

Wrap the pork ribs completely in aluminum foil and then place them back in the electric smoker.

Insert a meat probe into the thickest part of the pork ribs and wait for them to cook.

After an hour or so, check the temperature of the pork ribs.

If they have reached an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit, you can remove them from the electric smoker.

Allow them to rest for at least 10 minutes and serve them while hot.

Get your favorite BBQ sauce and serve it with the pork ribs or add other recipes that you want as side dishes.

Conclusion

These smoked pork ribs go well with biscuits, potatoes, or beans as side dishes. You can also go with healthier options like salad or any other food you want with the pork ribs.

As you can see, there are no complicated parts of the process so you can make these pork ribs whenever you want to. It does take time so you will need to make sure you have enough time.

Follow the guide above and experiment with other flavors. You can make the seasoning spicier or sweeter, or better yet, make your original flavors with your favorite ingredients.
