If you plan on cleaning your George foreman grill then you need to check out this guide on how to clean a George Foreman grill.
If you are getting into household cleaning this time of the year then there are some really interesting tips that I can give you on cleaning George Foreman grill.
Cleaning is necessary with George Foreman electric grill and any model of grill that you have.
It helps make the grills better at cooking and will surely help with the lifespan.
Making a habit of cleaning my grills every time I use them has made them significantly better.
That is especially true with George Foreman electric grill, as I use them when cooking small meals.
I have to admit that many things go when I cook with the grill, but the great thing is that I can share with you a very simple process of cleaning the George Foreman grill.
By cleaning my grill regularly, I figured that you do not have to clean them thoroughly when you do it regularly. No gunks, residuals, or dirt are too hard to remove.
So with this guide, you can clean your George Foreman grill regularly to prevent any type of dirt from gathering on the cooking surface and the other grill parts.
An important cleaning tip that I could give here is that make sure you clean your grill after each cooking session and do not wait for too long for the grease to solidify.
It is easier to keep it clean that way.
How To Clean Your George Foreman Grill
Here is how to clean your regular George Foreman grill.
This guide is for the grill models from George Foreman that do not have removable plates or cooking surfaces.
Step 1: Unplug The Grill
Right after you cook the last food of the day, unplug the George Foreman grill and let it cool down a bit. This part of the process will prevent the residuals from burning and hardening.
Most of the time, it is not hard to clean George foreman grill, and all I can see are food residuals that have gathered on the cooking surface and are left to burn too much while cooking.
If you clean the George foreman grill after every use, this won’t be a problem as much as it might seem to be when left for a long period of time.
Leaving the grill plugged in and letting it continue to heat up will only burn the food residuals and make them harden. They will then eventually stick to the cooking surface so unplug the grill.
Step 2: Wipe It Down
Get a piece of paper towel or a clean cloth and then wet them with water. Get your non-metal tongs, and then grab the wet towel to wipe down as much debris and grime as possible.
I always recommend using tongs in this part of the process, so you do not have to put your hand too close to the grill surface. Always put your safety first and avoid burning yourself.
Step 3: Allow The Grill To Cool Down
After doing this, I would routinely eat the food I had cooked to allow the grill to cool down completely. Once done eating, you can then return to cleaning the grill.
Get a soft cloth and then soak it in mild soapy water. This is where you go down and clean the grill to remove all the grime and food residuals from the grill’s cooking surface.
Rinse the cloth or sponge with water only and then wipe off any of the soap that has got on the cooking surface. Wipe the outer parts of the grill as well to remove any grease or food residue.
Wash the drip tray with soapy water and rinse it with water as well.
The drip tray is easiest to clean as it is dishwasher safe and you can even clean it with a damp cloth once you throw away any grease that is in it.
The drip tray is handy as it catches all the grease from the grilled steaks cooking in the grill and cleaning the drip tray is super easy.
Step 4: Steam The Dirt Off
Place about three paper towels soaked in water on the bottom plate of the George Foreman grill. While the grill is still warm, close the lid and then let the steam work its magic.
I have done this so many times, and the results are astonishing. The steam from the wet paper towels helps loosen the smaller bits of food residuals that you can easily wipe off.
It is extremely easy to clean the george foreman grill and it hardly takes ten minutes.
Pro Tip-
If you want to never clean your George Foreman grill then you can use aluminium foil and cook your steak in the foil inside the grill.
This way you never have to clean your grill and all you neeed to do is throw the foil away with all the fat drippings in it.
The drip tray can still get dirty but it is easier to clean the drip tray.
If you are wondering, is it OK to put aluminium foil on the george foreman grill then YES, it is safe.
However, you cannot use it on grill grates as the aluminium foil can enter internal worknig parts of the grill and cause damage to the grill.
This is one of the best cleaning tips for cleaning a george foreman grill as it would never get dirty in the first place.
Maintenance
Before cooking, my practice is to line the George Foreman grill with either parchment paper or aluminum foil. This removes the risk of food residuals burnt on the cooking surface.
You need a large parchment paper or aluminium foil to cover the entire bottom plate of the grill while also being large enough to be folded over to protect the heated top plate of the grill.
How to clean burnt food off George Foreman Grill?
If you have burnt food particles that are stubborn and just won’t go, you can use a wet cloth and try to wipe the food particle down while the grill is still hot.
The steam generated when the cloth comes into contact with the hot surface helps remove the food particle.
Make sure you use a tong to hold the wet cloth.
If your George Foreman Grill comes with removable plates, you can easily remove those plates when the grill completely cools down and soak all the stuck food particles.

How to Clean George Foreman Grills With Removable Plates
These advanced grills from George Foreman are easier to clean than the regular grills.
If you are wondering how to deep clean a George foreman grill with removable plates then it is the same as the other models.
All you need to do is remove the plates from the actual grill and wash them thoroughly in the sink.
You can even let them soak in warm water with dishwashing soap.
I usually let them soak in soapy water to loosen and release the food particles. From there, I use the soft side to wipe off the food residuals without damaging the plates.
Never place the grill plates in the dishwasher as the rough chemicals and movement inside might scratch the non-stick surface. Rinse the plates well, and then allow them to dry.
Although the plates are ceramic-coated, I still do not recommend washing them in the dishwasher. Plus, washing them by hand allows you to be more thorough and remove hidden food residues.
Always allow the plates and the other parts of the grill to cool down and dry before returning them to the grill. That way, they will not rust or damage the electrical parts of the grill.
Storage
You can leave your George Foreman on the kitchen top but make sure to cover it with a clean cloth.
That way, you can prevent dust and grease from going into the grill while you cook.
Cleaning a George Foreman grill is easy if you do it after every cooking session. Leaving it dirty for a long time will only make it worse.
Storing the grill in a cabinet is also safe, but I recommend removing the wire if it is detachable before putting it in a drawer or a cabinet. The cord is usually the target of mice or cockroaches.
Place the grill as far away from the stove as possible so that you will not have hot grease or food residuals splattering all over the grill. That or use a cover to protect the grill always.
