Bobby Flay’s Grilled Steak Recipe {JUICY, FLAVOURFUL}

If I were to rely on someone for my grilled steak recipe, there is no doubt in my mind that I would go with Bobby Flay’s grilled steak recipe to guide me through the process of perfecting the steak.

Bobby Flay is a well-known TV personality and a restaurateur. He owns different burger places and a restaurant in Las Vegas, so if he knows one thing, it is how to grill steaks.

The secret to grilling the perfect steak is to season it well.

Like many Iron Chef viewers in the United States, I have watched Bobby Flay cook on so many shows and this is one thing that is consistent even with Bobby Flay’s signature rib-eye steak.

That does not mean that you have to overdo the seasoning and use ingredients that are hard to find, keep it simple and delicious. This is steak recipe is a fairly easy recipe that you can cook on your grill.

Bobby Flay's Grilled Steak Recipe

I have tried this recipe so many times, and it is my go-to whenever I run out of ideas on what to do with the beautiful steak that I have purchased, and maybe it will be yours too.

For the longest time, I have followed many recipes from the great Bobby Flay and my favorites are the simple ones, especially because I usually have limited ingredients to use when cooking.

The recipe uses no mix seasonings or spice rub side but you can still go ahead and add your own if you want to improvise later.

Grilling a steak is great as you do not need complex ingredients nor do you need high-end cooking tools.

A good steak can fill you for the rest of the night as it is a great dinner. Grilling steaks is fun and it brings out the best flavors in the steak.

So, let’s get into the perfect grilled steak recipe below-

Bobby FLay’s grilled Steak Recipe

Ingredients

4 steaks of your choice (1 and 1/4 or 1 and a half inches thick)

2 tablespoons of canola oil or extra virgin oil

Kosher salt and ground black pepper to taste

Step 1: Choosing Your Steak

There are a lot of steaks that you can cook when you follow this recipe.

I always go with rib-eye steaks when I do this recipe mainly because of the juicy results.

You can opt for New York strips to get that amazing beefy flavor.

If you do so, make sure that the New York strips are around 12 ounces to give you a satisfying meal.

Another option is filet mignons or tenderloins. You can always order high-quality steaks from Snake River Farms online.

At 8 to 10 ounces, filet mignons are also great for grilling as they do not dry out easily and you can get a whole meal from a single cut.

If available, I also love to let the butcher shop trim the cuts of meat for me.

You do not need too much fat cap for this recipe as it only takes a few minutes to finish so the steak does not dry out.

Just make sure that the cut of meat or steak that you have selected has enough marbling.

That will help you get a juicier and more tender finish on the steak when you grill it on your charcoal grill.

Step 2: Preparing The Steaks

20 minutes before the actual cooking, bring out the steak from the refrigerator and then let it sit at room temperature. Make sure to cover it so that flies and other contaminants do not land on it.

Once the steaks are warmed up a bit, get a paper towel and then pat them dry.

I like to do this before seasoning so that the excess moisture is removed and the spices stick to the meat.

From there, you can brush the steaks with extra virgin olive oil.

I like using my hands when I season steak so you can just drizzle the oil over the steaks and rub it all over the steaks.

There is also the Bobby Flay steak marinade if you want to make the steaks even more tender. The Bobby Flay steak marinade is more like a dry rub and not like any common marinade.

The marinade consists mostly of dry herbs and seasonings like Spanish paprika, cumin, dry mustard, Kosher salt, black pepper, and olive oil. It brings all the flavors you need to the steak.

Step 3: Preheat And Season

Season the steaks liberally with salt and pepper before you grill the steaks. Simple seasoning can make a juicy grilled steak recipe shine.

Place the steaks on a clean plate, sprinkle the seasoning over it, flip them over to season the other side, and then run them on the plate. Just a few teaspoons of salt and pepper will do.

Make sure that the sides of the steaks are seasoned as well.

Let the steaks rest on the plate for 2 minutes to let the salt and pepper start to sink into the meat and start to tenderize it as well.

While waiting, prepare your grill by brushing off dust or any contaminant from the grill grates.

Since the steaks are coated in oil, there is no need to put extra on the grill grates.

Preheat the grill by setting it to high heat. I also get confused as to what exact temperature this is so to clarify it, high heat means that the temperature should be at least 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

It can get up to as high as 600 degrees Fahrenheit but 450 degrees is good enough. In order to make the best juicy grilled steak recipe, you need to make sure that the juices do not evaporate too quickly.

Allow the grill to preheat so that the whole cooking surface has an even distribution of heat.

If you grill the steak on a gas grill, make sure that it does not produce too many flare-ups. Grilling steak on gas grills is efficient but it can be a bit risky.

The advantage of grilling steak on a gas grill is that you get consistent heat. I do, however, prefer cooking with charcoal grills to add a bit of flavor to the steak.

Step 4: Grill The Steaks

Heat grill and make sure it is preheated then, transfer steak and cook the steaks directly on the hot side of the grill grates.

Close the grill when you grill steaks to allow the steaks to cook until golden brown and with deep brown crusts formin from the grill grates.

Grilling one side of each steak takes around 4 to 5 minutes and once the first side of the steak sears properly, flip the steaks over and then let the other side cook for another 3 to 5 minutes until they are golden brown.

After 3 to 5 minutes, insert a meat probe into the thickest part of the steaks. You can also put some chopped garlic cloves on the side on a hot pan to garnish the steak later on.

By this time, the internal temperature should be around 135 degrees Fahrenheit which is a medium-rare.

Medium-rare doneness takes about 5 to 7 minutes which is 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

At 8 to 10 minutes, it is a good enough time for the steak to cook and the steak should be medium well and has an internal temperature of 150 degrees Fahrenheit.

Once done place steaks on the counter to rest.

Of course, you can do how you grill steaks like you usually do but the best way that you grill the steak at medium-rare doneness to get the best results.

You can also cook the sides of the steak so that a better overall deep brown crust forms.

Step 5: Let It Rest

Once you get the steak done as you like, transfer the steak to a cutting board. Unlike other recipes, you do not need to cook the steak in the oven.

Place the grilled steaks on a cutting board but do not make the same mistake I did on my first try by cutting the steak right away.

In order to perfect the this recipe in the world, it is essential that you have to allow the steak to rest before you cut it.

This part of the process will allow the juices to settle in the meat and coat it so that you will have a juicy and tender finish on the steak.

Letting the steak rest for about 5 minutes will do the job. This is the secret to juicy grilled steak recipes as it brings together the juices and the meat.

You can cover it, let it rest, as it is, or just use aluminum foil to loosely cover the steak while it is resting.

If you think that the steak is too hard and dry, you can further cook the steak in the oven. You can add a basting sauce by melting about 3 teaspoons of butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.

I love garnishing my steak with red pepper flakes and some lemon juice but you can do as you like. Place the steak in a large serving platter, slice the steak, and enjoy your delicious meal with your favorite side dishes.

MY take on BOBBY FLAY’s GRILLED STEAK RECIPE

The simplicity of this recipe is what strikes me the most. It also makes it line up with the best grilled steak recipes in the world.

It shows that even professionals can keep it simple and still make the best food so you do not have to overdo anything.

The main goal of the recipe is to highlight the flavors that are already in the steak when you grill it. The best grilled steak recipe in the world highlights the meat and not the seasoning.

So seasoning with minimal ingredients like salt and pepper is enough for the grilled steak to shine.

I love this recipe and I have made it so many times at home.

It gives you a sense of satisfaction since you recreated a recipe that a professional cook has done.

Remember to invest in a good meat probe to measure the steak’s internal temperature and never forget to let the steaks rest before you cut through them and eat your meal.
