If you love steaks and other restaurant-quality products, then you should read this Snake River Farms review for all the great and accessible meats that you want to get.
When you talk about steaks, the first thing that usually comes to mind is Kobe, Japan. It is synonymous with Wagyu beef, one of the highest-ranked types of beef in the world.
However, you cannot always get this kind of beef at any supermarket. You need to go to dealers and ask for it just to get your hands on these amazing beef cuts and cook one for you.
Snake River Farms is a company that has produced great beef steaks and wagyu cuts for its many customers. They are considered one of the best companies in the United States.
You can choose any type of cut you want from choice, which is pretty much the regular steak you always get, to gold-standard and rated steaks that are perfect for special occasions.
They garnered a lot of attention and positive reviews throughout the years, so we got curious about how they are. Are they as good as what others say? We will see that here.
Ease Of Access
One of the many pros that you can find with reviews online about this company is its great website. You can access the meat that you want pretty easily, so there is no hassle here.
When I first looked at the website, I found some of the best-selling cuts and types of processed meats. They are very easy to find, and you can even find the category you want.
The website displays all the types of meat that they produce and sell. You can see which one fits the occasion as you do find some labels about any upcoming holidays for celebrating.
That is where the company matches the best meat that fits the occasion. You can easily find and get what you are looking for without needing to do much.
So it is given that you can easily find and navigate through the website. That is why you would not usually get to find these kinds of meat in the supermarket, but they are pretty easy to find.
But What Are You Getting?
When you buy from Snake River Farms, you get a great steak or cut of meat with many different types. You can go for the lower end with a lower price or go all-in with the highly-rated ones.
The most common review about the beef from the company is that all of their steaks and meats are restaurant-quality. You get to taste whatever you want while you cook it at your own home.
There are great marblings on the steaks, which means that they stay tender whether you slow cook them or go with a quicker method and sear them over high temperatures on your grill.
I had the chance to buy a steak from Snake River Farms, and I loved the result. Reverse-sear, direct heat, smoking, no matter what I used, the result was always a juicy and tender finish.
The taste of the steaks and other meats is also great and I had to choose other options. You can get dry-aged beef, steaks, and gold-standard meat from this amazing company.
I saw the nice marbling when the meat was still raw and the quality is far better than anything you get in supermarkets.
So I did wonder how the company produces such high-quality steaks but it does justify the price point.
What Are The Cattles Fed?
As usual, you would think that the cattle fed with grass grown in a specific area. While that is true, Snake River Farms make sure that they give much more to the cow.
There are different stages in feeding the cattle that the company follows to achieve the marbling you see on their meat. That is why the meat is always of top quality.
In the first year the cow, is given a combination of grass and hay. This builds up the muscles that will develop later when they grow up and produce that natural beefy flavor.
After the first year of the cow, the diet has other feeds that can help develop the fats and keep the muscles tender. Such are forages, nuts, potatoes, and grains for that purpose.
The cattle have vitamins and mineral supplements to ensure that they remain healthy and do not get sick. This also helps them keep the quality of the meat they produce.
For some specific cows that, for example, got injured and need treatment, they do feed antibiotics to cure them and to make as little damage as possible to the meat when butchered.
One thing that made me feel secure in that they never give growth hormones to the cow. That means that they are all fed natural feeds, which gives them that nice marbling and great taste.
Great Company System
You also do not have to worry too much about the environment and the cattle raised on the farm. The company makes sure that they follow everything that is needed and more.
The cattle are taken care of and do not live in harsh conditions during the raising period. This also reduces the tense muscles on the cows so they can produce tender cuts later on.
The company also makes sure that the process of raising the cows is sustainable and responsible. They order feeds from suppliers within 150 miles of the farm.
This makes sure that the cows are raised the same way and so the quality of meat they produce is nothing short of restaurant quality. They also do rotational grazing which is perfect for cows.
Rotational grazing means that the company or the farm does not focus on the feeding process in a single area. They switch to some areas to allow the soil to flourish again.
They also recycle the cow compost, use biogas to power the systems needed to maintain the facility, and produce the cuts that we get to buy from their website.
While also checking with the cattle every day, the employees have training on how to handle the cows. They are trained in a way to reduce stress on the cattle while being able to check them.
What Are The Standards-Based On?
When producing cow for the meat, you have to meet certain standards to grade the meat they produce. You can refer to many criteria, but there are also specific ones.
Most producers in the U.S. refer to the USDA Prime designation. This is a system where they grade the meat by looking into the marbling and seeing how well the cow is raised.
Snake River Farms does not refer to the standards of the USDA Prime designation. Instead, they follow the Beef Marbling Standard which is a Japanese marbling scale.
As we all know, you get the best wagyu beef in Kobe, Japan. So they do have high standards for the meat they produce and the marbling between the muscles.
Snake River Farms can produce meats that meat the excellent quality for the standard that they refer to. This means that the meat they produce ranges somewhere between 9 to 12.
For the cheaper ones, the company produces meat that falls under the range of 6 to 9. This might seem low, but the meat they produce is great and have perfect marbling in them.
What Should You Get?
I have tried ordering from Snake River Farms, and they can deliver with no hassle. You can choose many options from, so it might be a little confusing, especially for beginners.
There are the best-sellers and I had the privilege to try them. So with this short review, we will look at the best cuts of meat that you can get from Snake River Farms.
American Wagyu Beef
Although I would not suggest this for regular meals, I would love to go for this cut during the holidays. The American Wagyu Beef from Snake River Farms is truly the best you can get.
This cut had a great marbling and had the standards of the beef you get in Japan. There is perfect distribution in the fats between the muscles throughout the meat for a tender finish.
I am not even exaggerating when I say that the meat almost melts in your mouth. There are a lot of things that you can taste with this cut, but the buttery texture is the highlight.
There are many cuts of American Wagyu, so you can choose between the black and gold-graded cuts. I would suggest the gold grade as it is way better than most steaks.
However, it does come with a hefty price so I recommend getting it for special occasions. You can get New York strips, flanks, filet mignon, and many other cuts depending on your preference.
Aside from beef, Snake River Farms also offer different kinds of pork cuts. Most high-end restaurants even get their pork cuts from Snake River Farms, so you get only the best ones.
Just like the beef cuts, the pork cuts from the company score high in marbling standards. The pigs used in making the meat are a cross between Berkshire and Japanese black pigs.
Berkshire is from the UK and has a higher price tag. So by crossing them with Japanese black pigs and raising them in the U.S., you get that high quality of meat without the expensive price.
Even when I seared this pork cut, the finish was still tender. There were crispy finishes on the edges of the pork cut which made it great for adding to the already tender texture.
I did not get the chance to try the other options such as the tomahawk, ribs, and others but I did try the pork chops and they were great. The texture is tender, and the taste is unlike any other.
When I compare the meat I get from Snake River Farms, there are no similarities between it and the cuts you find at supermarkets other than the fact that they taste like beef or pork.
The high-grade marbling on both the pork and beef cuts is perfectly made. You can see how well the cows are raised with no stress from the fats that they get in between the muscles.
They taste great and you can feel the meat melting in your mouth when you take a bite. I highly recommend getting meat from Snake River Farms, especially during the holidays for a nice steak meal!
