Perfect Chicken Breast Recipe On Traeger Grill

This perfect chicken breast recipe on Traeger grill will have you cooking your favorite meal in less than an hour. It is a very easy recipe that anyone can make for a delicious meal.

Chicken is a very versatile food as you can cook it however you want. You can cook a whole chicken or make some burgers with shredded chicken and have a great snack.

Chicken breast is the favorite of people who are trying to watch their diet or are trying to lose some weight. This part of the chicken does not have as much fat as the other chicken parts.

The setback with this chicken cut is that it is relatively bland and can easily dry when not cooked properly. So this recipe will help you on how to properly cook a juicy chicken breast.

The chicken is not the only thing that is versatile with this recipe. You are also using a Traeger grill, one of the most versatile types of grills that can cook any recipe you want.

So with the combination of a versatile main ingredient and a versatile cooking grill, let us take a look at what they can make so you can cook your best meals in just a few minutes.

What You Need For This Recipe

There are many cuts from a single chicken that you can choose from. You can change the recipe later on and cook other chicken parts on your Traeger grill if you want that.

However, for this recipe, we will first see how you can cook a chicken breast on the Traeger grill. This is because chicken breast is one of the trickiest parts of a chicken to cook properly.

So go and get the chicken breast from the supermarket or the nearest butcher shop. I recommend getting it from a poultry farm or a butcher, especially if you cook it right away.

For this recipe, you do not need bones, so if possible, get the butcher to remove the bone in the middle of the chicken breast. Then, get the other ingredients for the basting and sauce.

If you want to go with the original Traeger sauce and condiments, you can get the following ingredients. Get some garlic, press them, and then some Worcestershire sauce for the rub.

You will also need the Traeger Fin & Feather Rub to get the best out of the seasonings.

Once you have prepared all the ingredients, you can start with cooking or even enhance the rub.

For the perfect texture and juiciness that you want on your chicken breasts, you can get the Traeger Sweet & Heat BBQ Sauce and the Traeger ‘Que BBQ Sauce for a tastier result.

Now that you have all the ingredients needed for the recipe, you can start the cooking process by preparing everything that you will need for cooking, tongs, covers, gloves, all those things.

Step 1: Prepare The Brine/Rub

In a small bowl, mix the pressed garlic, Traeger Fin & Feather Rub, Worcestershire sauce, and olive oil. You can also edit this rub if you have a favorite rub that you think will be great in this.

Whisk the ingredients all together until the rib has evenly mixed with the dry ingredients. You can add spices if you think it is needed, but there are already many flavors in the Traeger rub.

So have a taste test and add anything that you think you need in the recipe. After you have been satisfied with the taste of the rub, get the chicken breasts and then cover them with it.

Use your hands and make sure that you get the rub all over the chicken breasts. Once you have them covered with the rub, put a lid on the bowl and then let the rub sink into the chicken.

Step 2: Prepare The BBQ Sauce

While cooking the chicken breasts, you will need something to keep them moist. That is why you should also make the BBQ sauce ahead of time, ready once you cook the chicken.

Get a separate bowl and then mix the Traeger Sweet & Heat and Traeger ‘Que BBQ Sauce. For this recipe, where I used four chicken breasts, I needed about half a cup of each sauce.

Make sure that the mixture of the BBQ sauce contains equal amounts of both sauces. Let them rest for a little while you are waiting for the chicken breasts to absorb the rub.

Step 3: Preheat The Traeger Grill

To avoid wasting time waiting for the chicken breasts to absorb the rub, you can preheat the Traeger grill. Set the temperature to 500 degrees Fahrenheit with hickory wood pellets.

You can also get other types of pellets for this recipe, but I suggest using the hickory pellets as they blend well with all the flavors. Applewood pellets also add an element of sweetness.

Some Traeger grills might take a long time to preheat, so you can do this part of the process ahead of time. Make sure to close the lid to ensure maximum heat retention on the grill.

Step 4: Grill The Chicken Breasts

Place the chicken directly on the grill grates and then close the lid again. Let them cook for 20 to 30 minutes flipping the chicken breasts over at the halfway mark to cook the other side.

Once you flip the chicken breasts, insert a meat probe into the thickest part of the chicken. Make sure that you keep it in there while you continue to cook the chicken breasts.

Five minutes before the chicken breasts cooks, get the BBQ sauce that you have mixed, and then use a brush to glaze the chicken breasts with the sauce for a juicy and flavorful finish.

Get the sauce on all sides, and then finish up the cooking process. The chicken breasts should have an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit before you remove them.

Once the meat probe reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit, you can remove the chicken breasts from the grill and then let them rest on a plate or a cutting board for at least 5 minutes before slicing.

Why Let The Chicken Breasts Rest?

Letting the chicken breasts rest for at least 5 minutes before slicing and serving them allows you to get all the juices you need for the meat. This also helps tenderize the chicken breasts a little.

By allowing the chicken breasts to rest, you get to circulate the juices inside the meat, and you will see the results once you cut through them. The juice will ooze out of the chicken.

Also, the chicken has absorbed a lot of heat while cooked, so it will be too hot to serve. Letting them rest will get you to an optimal temperature where you can eat them.

Why 165 Degrees Fahrenheit?

You need to cook chicken breasts until they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit, as it is the internal temperature set by authorities to make sure it is safe to eat.

The FDA sets this to ensure that all the bacteria inside the chicken are killed and remove the food-borne illnesses that might get into your body and make you extremely sick.

This is especially true with chicken as it is one of the leading types of meat with salmonella. So make sure that you cook the chicken breasts up until they reach that internal temperature.

Conclusion

When you are cooking chicken breasts, you need to be patient as they are pretty hard to cook. They are thick and can often dry out before letting them out of the grill.

You can also smoke them in a Traeger grill if you want a juicier result. However, that is a more hassle process, and it will take longer than just grilling them.

Just follow the recipe above, and you will be making the best-grilled chicken breasts for you and your family. Be careful with the heat and always let the chicken breasts rest after cooking them!
