Flank steak is one of the most flavorful parts of the cow as it emits the beefy flavor from the amazing muscles on it.

This is a part of the cow that has a lot of meat and little marbling.

Aside from the fats on top of the flank steak, there are not many fats in between the meat. While this is great, it is pretty hard to cook as it can easily go tough on the grill.

Luckily, we have a perfect grill for any kind of cooking style or method that you need.

Pit Boss not only provides amazing grills but also recipes that you can do with their pellet grills.

This recipe below is similar to the original Pit Boss recipe that you can find on their website. I followed it and liked it hence I’m sharing this based on my experience.

So if you are ready to cook a quick and healthy meal for your family, then read on.

Here, we will be talking about each step of the process so you can follow it and cook as you read through it.

What You Will Need?

Flank steak is not hard to find as it is not the most sought-after part of the cow.

However, you do have competitors as some restaurants would prefer getting these cuts to make different recipes.

There is not much marbling on this cut of beef as it is almost pure muscle.

It comes from the bottom part of the abdominal area of the cow, which means that it takes a lot of weight under.

The hardworking muscle is composed of pure meat with the lining of fats on the outside.

That is why you need to just look at the tag on whether it is a choice or a select cut to differentiate it.

The choice cut is better as it has undergone some tests to see how tender it is and how well it can cook.

So I recommend getting the choice cut to not end up with a tough cut of meat.

You will need about 16 ounces of flank steak for this recipe and other ingredients for the seasoning.

You will need the Pit Boss Sweet Heat Rub for the main seasoning of the steak.

Most people would prefer skirt steak with this recipe but experimenting with flank steak is also good as it is almost the same as a skirt steak.

So here, we will be cooking flank steak fajitas.

For the other ingredients, you will need green, red, and yellow sliced bell peppers, one diced onion, 8 corn tortillas, 3 tablespoons of olive oil, and of course, the flank steak itself.

From there, you can start the cooking process and make sure that you have everything ready.

This recipe is very simple, and you can also do it with other cuts of meat aside from flank steak.

Ingredients

2 flank steaks

Red, yellow, and green bell peppers. One of each

8 corn tortillas

3 tablespoons of olive oil

Pit Boss Sweet Heat Rub

Step 1: Marinate The Flank Steak

Get the olive oil and rub it all over the flank steak.

Ensure that you cover all sides of the flank steak as it will help keep the rub stick onto the steak once you put it on its surface.

Get the Pit Boss Sweet Heat Rub and use your hands to rub it all over the flank steak.

Place the flank steak on a container and then cover it or you can just use a tray as long as it has a cover.

Place the seasoned flank steak and then let the flavors sink into the flank steak by leaving it covered in the refrigerator for at least an hour. This helps tenderize the muscles.

Step 2: Prepare The Vegetables

Cut the bell peppers into thin strips and then use the olive oil to brush them lightly with a thin coating.

Do this with the onion as well and then cover them for now before cooking.

You can also do this more easily by placing the cut-up vegetables in a bowl, put a tablespoon of olive oil into the bowl along with the bell peppers, cover it, and then shake it well.

Step 3: Preheat The Pit Boss Grill

Pit Boss recommends using the Mesquite Hardwood Pellets for this recipe but you can use whatever you want.

You do not have to put too much smoky flavor into the steak anyway.

Fill up the pellet hopper and then preheat the pellet grill to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Close the lid and then allow the grill to preheat for 15 minutes to even out the temperature inside the grill.

Once it reaches the desired temperature, you can cook the bell peppers and onions first.

Grill them for 5 minutes on each side but make sure that they do not burn from the flames.

Remove the bell peppers and onions from the grill and toss them in a bowl with the remaining olive oil.

You can slice them into smaller pieces or leave them just as they are with the strips.

Step 4: Cook The Flank Steak

Most experts say that the best way to cook a flank steak is through a quick sear over high heat.

So that is what we will do with this recipe as you will only need a few minutes.

Place the flank steak directly on the grill grates and let it cook for about 10 minutes or less.

Insert a meat probe into the thickest part of the steak and allow it to cook for a little longer.

Aim for an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Once it gets there, you can remove the flank steak from the grill and then let it rest on a cutting board for up to 5 minutes.

Step 5: Serve And Enjoy!

Once the flank steak cools off, slice it into smaller strips against the grain.

Place the strips with the bell peppers and onions on a platter and then serve it with your corn tortillas.

Prepare some salsa, shredded cheese, or any side or sauce that you want to go with the flank steak fajitas.

It is up to you which topping you want with your delicious, warm, fajitas!

Conclusion

There are many things that you can do with a flank steak.

You can follow recipes online, but this is perhaps the best way to cook a muscle-filled cut of meat.

You can just stop at when it is cooked as a steak and eat it as a meal as well.

You could modify the recipe and let us know in the comments if you come up with something new!

Just remember to always keep the heat high when cooking flank steak as you do not need marbling.

Some of the recipes that we made on the Pit Boss grill are Pork Chops, Grilled Flank Steak Fajitas, Pork Tenderloin, Pulled Pork, Smoked Salmon, Turkey Breast, Ribs, and Pork Butt.

Cooking it quickly will keep it tender and also keep the beefy flavor in it.

There is no need for you to smoke a flank steak as it will most likely dry out and become tough.

So make sure that you follow the recipe and guidelines above to make sure your flank steak is cooked right!
