Ooni Koda 16 Vs Ooni Fyra 12 Pizza Oven- Better Pizza Oven?

Cooking pizzas will only take a few cookouts for you to perfect the recipe. You will also need the proper tools and equipment such as the Ooni Koda 16 or Fyra to get the power.

Pizza ovens are becoming more popular nowadays since people discovered that these cooking appliances are very versatile. There have been a lot of companies making such ovens.

But none of them are as good as Ooni and their products. They have been around for quite a while and are considered one of the best pioneers of creating high-quality pizza ovens.

With their new additions every year or so, the users of Ooni never run out of options. However, they also do not need to change their ovens every year as they are very durable and powerful.

Cooking pizzas involve a lot of heat, which is hard to get from conventional ovens. That is why Ooni started a campaign of making the best portable ovens that can get hot.

Their pizza ovens are famed for their portability and immense power. Although their ovens are generally small, they can produce the best and most powerful temperatures in any oven.

I say it is not worth comparing Ooni to other mediocre brands because they truly are making a pizza oven that is first of its kind. There are competitions, but then Ooni always comes on top.

You can still compare their pizza ovens, so you know which one fits your preferences best. This post will do exactly that with the Ooni Koda 16 and Ooni Fyra.

See, these are two of the more modern pizza ovens from Ooni. They were both released recently, and many people talked about them, so let us see what they can offer.

Significant Differences Between The Ooni Koda 16 and Fyra

When comparing and choosing between pizza ovens, you need to know the differences between them so that you can see what you like and dislike about each pizza oven.

Here, we will be talking briefly about the differences and see which pizza oven you would like more. As we progress, we will see the similar features of these two pizza ovens, so read on.

Size

The first thing that you will notice between the two is how large one over the other is.

The pizza ovens’ design from Ooni is very distinct, so you will tell them apart from other brands. However, the Ooni ovens have fine detailing that sets them apart from each other.

The Ooni Fyra is a successor of the Ooni 3 wood pellet Pizza Oven.

As I have mentioned, one of the boasting trademarks of Ooni is the portability of their pizza ovens. The Ooni Fyra only spans 13.7 inches wide, which is pretty small for a pizza oven.

That means that you can cook decent 12-inch pizzas in it with enough space to move it around. You can also bring the Ooni Fyra to tailgating trips and campings easily using a simple bag.

As for the Ooni Koda 16, the name gives it away, so yes, you can cook 16-inch pizzas in this large pizza oven. However, it has an extra inch because of the slightly thicker insulation.

This large oven is meant for larger groups of people and weighs a little over 40 pounds. So although it is a bit heavy, you can still carry it around in the car for road trips.

Burners And Fuel Attachment

The next thing that differs between these two pizza ovens is the burners inside them. They also use different fuels, so they have a different burner attachment for those.

The Ooni Koda 16 uses propane gas to power the burners to heat its large interior; this gives a more consistent source of heat that will gradually turn the temperature up inside.

The gas attachment of the Ooni Koda 16 is also redesigned or rather repositioned to balance its weight. You can now find the fuel attachment and controls on the right side of the pizza oven.

Instead of putting the gas attachment at the back, Ooni decided to put it on the side so that the controls will be easier to reach.

The Ooni Fyra has a protruding attachment at the back that is an automatic pellet feeder. Aside from being a pellet hopper, it also feeds the pellets to the firebox automatically.

At the back of the Ooni Fyra, you will see something like a small chimney. If you open the cap, you will see the firebox directly, and that is where you should pour the wood pellets in.

From there, you can light up the fuel and start the fire. The burner of the Ooni Fyra is at the back, and it heats the pizza oven evenly.

For such a big pizza oven, the Ooni Koda needs more than one line of burners. This pizza oven has an L-shaped burner that fires up the oven from the back and side.

This design is beneficial because the interior of the Ooni Koda 16 is pretty large, so it needs more than a single burner to heat the insides. The flames meet at the top and evenly heats the oven.

Airflow and Ventilation

The Ooni Koda 16 pizza oven is a large pizza oven with a relatively large opening; this is where the air gets in and out to keep the fire at the back and on the side going.

The bottom of this pizza oven has vents that allow air to enter from underneath; this blasts the fire up and heats the interior more to cook food quickly.

I observed that the Ooni Koda 16 does not need as much air ventilation, just enough oxygen to keep the fire going, and the gas fuel will take care of the rest to heat the pizza oven.

The Ooni Fyra, having a less consistent heat source from the pellets, needs a lot of airways to get the fire going.

With the chimney, you can control the temperature inside the pizza over easily. You can close the chimney using a valve to limit the airflow or divide it into two when you need to store it.

Aside from the chimney, the Ooni Fyra also has an impressive door that closes the oven to keep the heat evenly distributed within.

Ooni made the door with a small peephole of only an inch wide. That way, you will still be able to look at the pizza inside the Fyra without opening it.

Performance of the ovens

Both of these pizza ovens are great and can go for temperatures up to 932 degrees Fahrenheit; this is the right temperature for cooking authentic Neapolitan pizza.

Within 60 seconds or less, the pizza ovens can cook perfect pizzas. The preheating process differs as the Ooni Koda 16 takes 20 to 30 minutes to preheat because of its size.

The Ooni Fyra only needs 15 minutes to reach that temperature. Either way, they can cook anything that you want in them, and pizzas are the best recipes to be cooked with these ovens.

The Pizzas cooked inside both the ovens tasted delicious, however, I did find that you could cook more inside the Koda with relatively more cooking space.

Are they easy to clean?

These pizza ovens are durable and made with good quality materials. However, some parts do not do well with water so never clean them using water, especially the cordierite pizza stone.

Just let the heat burn away the food residuals and then brush them off when done. With this process, you will have a clean oven for you to cook the next time again.

Wipe the outer parts with a towel if need be, fold the legs, hide the chimneys, and close the doors before putting them back in the next cookout storage.

My Final Thoughts

When it comes to pizza ovens, Ooni is one of the first brands mentioned by any pizza lover. That is because they produce high-quality pizza ovens with power and durability.

The Ooni Koda 16 is the perfect pizza oven for people who want more pizzas, or if you are having a small gathering with friends, you should bring out this beast.

The Ooni Fyra is a smaller pizza oven that will be just enough for you to cook a pizza meal for the family. They are both powerful, so you should consider buying one of them.

Fyra is a wood pellet pizza oven and the Koda 16 a gas-fueled oven. I love both the ovens but if I had to choose one then I would go with the Koda 16 since I find gas fueled pizza oven convient.

Performance-wise the ovens have similar results but working with the Koda 16 felt easier.
